Day 24: An animal:

Who else? Anyway, no photo series would be complete without a pic of Moya. She was rather randomly named after the space ship from Farscape, but it's a good name and it has grown on her.

She was born in the wilds of Noord Holland, and only caught by an animal rescue group to get spayed, and then released again. They clipped part of her ear so it would be clear she was already spayed, in case the group would run into her again. After the operation however she developed a kidney infection, and it took a long time for her to heal. So long that the shelter though she might take to being adopted.

I took her home. She is super sweet, and she is still getting mellower. It took a little time to get used to a cat who does not think your are her mom, but apparently a group mate. She always insists on washing me in return when I pet her. She will be 10 next year.

She's so gorgeous! What a colour, so elegant! And she sounds like she has a big personality too.

One of my cats likes to lick my hands, too. She does it especially when she's being needy.

Our cats are around the same age as yours (ten and eleven). We got them from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home last October. We love them so.

Ooh, you got older cats, that's great! I went in wanting a black cat, but once I saw Moya I was sold. She really is adorable. The first few days weren't great, she was hiding and I felt like such a failure. What had possessed me to think a special needs case would be a good idea? The cat was unhappy, I was unhappy. She slept on the bed with me at the end of the first week :)

Moya looks and sounds like a charmer. Our cats had the same rapid learning curve - it took them about a week to go from hiding in their carriers and huddling together to sprawling all over the bed purring. ♥ They went through it all again with the house move, but this time it only took them a couple of days.

We were after a ginger tabby, but left with two black and white fluffballs.

Yeah, I suppose everyone has an idea of what kind of cat they think will be pretty, but in the end you fall for their personalities, or their charisma :)

after my move Moya was fine once all the familiar stuff was in the new house. Even when it was all still boxed and piled up in the living room. No idea how that works, but it's a relief, I hate to see the cat so stressed out.

How's the house coming along?

Our kitties have buckets of charisma. Or they think they do. ♥

Yes, ours seem to be happier as soon as they can see some continuity. Like a sunny bed to sprawl over (this is exactly what one of the cats is doing as I type this).

Good, thanks! Dining room has one wall and the chimneybreast done, and we're endeavouring to do the shelves one side of the hearth and the wall behind them today. Doing things one wall at a time seems to keep the chaos to a bearable minimum. Looking forward to ticking another room off the list!

Yeah, one step at the time, keeps it bearable. It must be hard to have to live among the chaos. Are you already looking for a fireplace?

I got a sample book from Farrow and Ball yesterday, and a test jar of dead salmon ;p

We know where we're getting our fireplace from - a shop near Islington that has hundreds of reclaimed antique fireplaces in its back yard - and pretty much what it'll look like. There's a particular kind of one-piece cast iron fireplace that would have been used in this type of London house around 1900, so that's what we're going for. We're probably waiting until next month in order to play it safe with budget stuff, but the aim is to get fireplaces sorted out during October so we haz fire when the weather turns cold.

\o/ Post pictures if you paint!
