30 day photography challenge, day 08

Day 08: A bad habit:

I could easily do a 30 day challenge on my bad habits alone. It was hard to choose, but in the end this one is fairly iconic. I spend way too much money way too easy. If it's shiny and I want it and I can somehow afford it? MINE. That is how I ended up with these gaudy shoes.

At least you get some glamourous trainers out of it?

True, and I wore the hell out of these things. I still wear them occasionally, even though they are more than 5 years old now.

My wife just made me throw out all kinds of much-loved, ratty old clothes in preparation for tomorrow's move! ;_;

That's harsh, but in the end you'll feel better for not having to unpack them again and having to find a spot for them :> Moving is so gruelling in this last phase! Hang in there, once you are in the new house with all the stuff it will be worth it.

Edit: also, that was one of the issues with these shoes too! They were way too expensive to throw out when I moved 2 years ago, and it's still not an option ;p

2nd edit: your wife is awesome, by this time during my move I had lost the will to live and was unable to sort through stuff, so I just took EVERYTHING that was left. Cleaning out the new attic has been the albatross chore for 2 years now :)

Haha, I know it's good for me. I was amazed at how many bags of things we ditched. The sellers of our new house are getting their removal company to pack for them, and the real disadvantage of this (apart from extra £££/€€€) is that you don't get to declutter and end up moving a ton of junk you don't actually even want any more!

Our eaves (we have an attic bedroom in the old flat so the walled off crawlspace got used as an attic) got majorly full of crap while we lived here, including old furniture from before we realised that if you put furniture out on the street in this part of town, someone will have picked it up in 30 minutes.

I got some guys from a charity shop run by handicapped people (never easier to do some good ;p) come by and pick up some boxes of old books and other stuff I wanted to get rid of. I should do the same again, but it's the sorting that's such a chore. Terrible 1st world problems :)

Yes, we've been having all kinds of fun middle-class guilt over ditching/donating stuff. We've gone with a combination of recycling, donating to local charity shops, leaving furniture for people who'd like it to bag, donating to a lady down the road who makes a living from doing car boot sales (do you have these? Our version of American garage sales), and a trip to the dump for the really terrible stuff. Right, back to the grind!

We have jumble sales but I'm too lazy for that kind of thing (and I don't have a car! Very convenient) so I'll just have to find someone willing to come pick it up. It's mostly books at this point.

Good luck, it'll be over soon!
